What are adopts?
Adopts/adoptables are original character designs made with the intention for the rights to the design to be sold or traded. Generally, adopts may have a specific set of rules that must be followed during ownership – see more about mine below.
How to adopt
1.
Identify which design you would like to purchase. Make sure to take note of their unique identifying # number.
2.
Follow the “Adopt me!” button to find the adoption application and fill that out.
3.
Allow time for me to contact you to ensure that the transaction will be correct and finalise the adoption certificate.
Rules of ownership
When purchasing an adopt you will receive a certificate including the information about the character design, the transfer, price, and rules of ownership. These same rules are displayed here:
- Once a one-time payment is made to @playlish on PayPal ownership is officially transferred to the buyer of the design.
- Receiving this document acts as proof of ownership for any further disputes.
- The new owner may use the character design for any type of creative works.
- The new owner may alter the design.
- The new owner may rename the character.
- The new owner may resell or give away the character.
These rules exist to keep you, as a buyer, safe while owning a character designed by me. I don’t want there to be any chance of future issues once a purchase has been made. After you have paid, the character and design are fully owned by you.
What you receive
Purchasing character design adopts are one of the more abstract goods & services that I provide.
1. Design rights
The primary and most important thing that you receive when adopting a character design with me is the rights to that design. The ownership rules cover these slightly more in-depth, but upon receiving your ownership certificate, you have full permissions to do what you will with your new character design.
2. Character ownership certificate
Secondarily, when you purchase a character design adopt you will be issued a unique character ownership certificate alongside the design. This certificate is used to verify authenticity of your character purchase. Although not foolproof, it acts as proof that you have received the design directly from me.
This certificate does not need to continue to be passed on in the event of the design being resold, traded, or gifted, and the certificate will not provide much authenticity past initial ownership.
3. Discount eligibility
Finally, and somewhat tangentially, if you own one of my adopt designs, you are eligible for a discount on most commission types.
When commissioning me, if you use a design originally created by me, with the exception of custom designs, you will automatically receive 20% off your total price.
